This dress is inspired by Chinese culture and the iconic cheongsam — a garment that became a powerful symbol of femininity, elegance, courage and, over time, female freedom.
For me, it is a beautiful dialogue between tradition and modernity. The traditional Chinese character is reflected in the distinctive stand-up collar, while the modern interpretation comes through the defined waist, fitted silhouette and high slits.
The cheongsam is, for me, not about ideology, but about drawing inspiration from a culture, its aesthetics, and the many ways different traditions around the world celebrate feminine beauty.
Another great source of inspiration for me was the film In the Mood for Love — a film full of love, life, silence, music and exquisite details. I find inspiration in its music, lifestyle, gestures, appearance and extraordinary sense of elegance. Whenever I run out of ideas, this film seems to pour them over me all over again.
The female protagonist often wears a similar cheongsam — while walking through the streets of Hong Kong in the evening, or simply going out to buy noodles. Perhaps it is precisely these ordinary moments that make the beauty of the film so extraordinary.
It is one of the most feminine silhouettes I know.
We sometimes think that in order to emphasize the female body, we need a deep neckline, a short skirt or bare shoulders. But this dress proves exactly the opposite. It falls all the way to the ankles, has a high collar, and still manages to beautifully reveal the shape of the female body.
The defined waist, the line of the hips and the high slit create a silhouette that is elegant, sensual and never obvious.
