Vietnamese Horn Bracelets
I bought these Vietnamese bracelets fifteen years ago in Hanoi. I came across them completely by chance while travelling through my motherland. I met a family who made various accessories from buffalo horn — and I fell in love with these bracelets instantly.
First of all, my apologies to all vegans and Buddhists. 🤎
But the way these accessories are traditionally made feels to me like a beautiful example of a zero-waste approach. When an old buffalo reaches the end of its life, every part of the animal is put to use. Nothing is simply thrown away. In a way, it is a gesture of gratitude for everything the animal has given us throughout its life.
The bracelets then spent fifteen years sitting in a box in our atelier.
I had no idea what to do with them.
In Vietnam, I loved them immensely. But for some reason, once I brought them to Prague, they suddenly felt completely out of place.
Until this year, while working on the new Autumn/Winter collection, I remembered them.
Perhaps they called for me themselves. 🙂
Each bracelet is one of a kind. No two are exactly alike. And they are intentionally made slightly larger, so they can be worn over a coat, sweater or jacket.
So finally, their time has come.
